Alex is a partner in our building and construction and dispute resolution team. Alex specialises in preparing all types of construction contracts (including head contracts, subcontracts, consultant’s agreements, supplier agreements and specialty agreements), preparing adjudication applications and responses, advising on licensing issues for builders, engineers and architects and all types of construction disputes.
In additional his construction practice, Alex also practices in general dispute resolution with a focus on general commercial agreement disputes, insurance disputes and defamation.
Alex has over 7 years’ experience in all courts and tribunals and regularly acts for developers, builders, subcontractors, construction consultants and other construction professionals.
Prior to joining Shand Taylor, Alex was a partner in a preeminent boutique building and construction law firm. In 2019, Alex was listed as a recommended back-end construction lawyer on Doyle’s Guide and sits on the committee of the Commercial Law Association of Australia (Queensland Chapter).
Over the last 12 months, Alex has been involved in several landmark building and construction disputes, including:
Acting for a builder in an application to have licence conditions unlawfully imposed on its licence by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission declared void.
Acting for a builder regarding whether an adjudication application was invalid by reason that it was not correctly served in accordance with the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 (Qld).
Defending a claim from an owner to set aside an adjudication decision on the basis that it was vexatious.
Acting for a developer in defence of an application to have part of its land declared a ‘public road’ on the basis that the land had been traditionally used as a public highway.
Alex frequently hosts presentations and workshops regarding construction law and presents externally for organisations such as Legalwise Seminars and the Commercial Law Association.
