Matthew Shannon

Director

Matthew is a director in our property and commercial section. He has extensive experience in all aspects of development law primarily focusing on town planning, environmental and infrastructure law, body corporate, property and commercial law, banking and finance, trade practices law, and intellectual property.

 

He has degrees in both Science and Law and regularly advises on all aspects of planning law from development applications and submissions to Planning and Environment Court applications and appeals, infrastructure charges and infrastructure agreements, compensation, and the interpretation and drafting of planning instruments.

 

Matthew regularly advises on the issues and responsibilities under Federal, State, and local laws (including environmental licensing and environmental management plans) as well as the vegetation management legislation and water-related issues (including downstream discharge obligations).

 

Matthew's clients include numerous developers (including the developers of the master-planned communities of Robina and North Lakes) as well as the State Government and statutory authority.

Matthew provides advice in all areas of law that impact on the development industry including the preparation of and advice on contracts for the sale and purchase of property, option agreements, building contracts, and the drafting of contracts for the sale of lots in proposed developments (including complex community titles schemes in a layered arrangement), property development and management agreements, finance documents, the registration of survey plans and the preparation of a variety of easements including complex volumetric easements. Matthew has been involved in the development and sale of a variety of commercial (office buildings, shopping centres, hotels, and golf courses) and residential properties and businesses.

Matthew regularly advises on the provisions of the body corporate legislation including the responsibilities and powers of bodies corporate.

Matthew is a member of the Property Council of Australia, as well as a member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Qld Division) and the Queensland Environmental Law Association.
