Heath Burton


Heath is an associate in our building, construction and infrastructure team. Heath practices in all areas of construction law, with a particular focus on dispute resolution and litigation.

Heath has experience in all courts and tribunals in Queensland and has acted for clients in:

  • general commercial disputes, including contract interpretation;

  • payment and other disputes under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017  (Qld);

  • residential and commercial construction disputes;

  • preparation of deeds and boutique contracts, such as head contracts, subcontracts and consultancy agreements; and

  • disputes with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission, and other regulatory bodies.

During the past 12 months, Heath has been involved in a number of high-profile matters, including:

  1. Acting for a large national construction and principal development company in disputes with subcontractors and regulatory bodies in respect of several major construction projects across Queensland.

  2. Resolving disputes between contractors and subcontractors relating to raising costs of construction and incomplete works.

  3. Acting for subcontractors and contractors in a number of disputes in Queensland, New South Whales, the ACT and Victoria relating to payment claims disputes under the relevant Payment Act legislation for those states.

Heath has a passion for construction, property and planning matters, and has contributed to a number of articles aimed towards helping clients in the building and construction sector.
